statement

As a Latina raised in New York City, appreciation and love of diverse culture was prominent in my upbringing. Mesmerized by universal phenomena, ancient cultures and patterns, my artwork strives to combine those natural and cultural elements into décor and functional ware.

From celestial events to the earth’s minerals, flora and fauna, colors and shapes emerge in awe inspiring geometric patterns and textures. Environmental phenomena became the basis for symbols and motifs of ancient architecture, engineering, language, religion and art. Captivated by ancient civilizations whose habits and lives emanated from the natural world and the cosmos, they create the foundation for my source of inspiration.

In my process of experimenting with multiple cultural patterns and various geometric shapes, I strive to transcribe these elemental motifs into artwork that reflects both culture both past and present. Playing with similar symbology, motifs, and designs allows for me to explore an undercurrent theme of appreciation to emulate the beauty of natural phenomena.

By studying archaic methods, imagery, symbols and codes, I seek to transcend time and space back into another realm of lost knowledge. Through the carving each pattern by hand, to replication of certain periodic pottery or cultural shapes causes me to immerse myself into another world. This utilization of traditional methods allows for me to reconnect with our ancient roots, to explore the connection between humanity, art and the cosmos.

I encourage my viewers to get lost in the colors, follow the patterns, feel the texture. Take a small journey back to a place of tranquility, to a different time amid a chaotic industrialized world. A gentle reminder when caught amongst the modern machine to stop, breathe, and call back a state of peace, tranquility and unity.
